Data deletion — Zeif
Last updated: October 15, 2026
You can delete your account yourself, from the app, without asking us or waiting for anyone.
Zeif works with an account and a subscription. We keep your email, the name you show to your household, which household you belong to and the encrypted copies of your documents. This page explains how all of that is deleted and what doesn't disappear.
How to delete your account and what is on the server
- Open Zeif and sign in.
- Go to Settings → Zeif account.
- Tap “Delete account” and confirm.
This deletes the account, your open sessions, your email and name, the encrypted copy of your vault, the recovery envelope and your membership of any household. It cannot be undone.
How to delete what is on the phone
It is a separate step, because it is different data.
- Go to Settings → Help.
- Tap “Delete all my data”.
- Type DELETE to confirm.
The app first destroys this device's encryption key —which makes the attachments unreadable immediately— and then deletes the databases, files and preferences.
Uninstalling the app doesn't delete your account.
It removes what is on the phone, but your email, your name and the encrypted copies stay on our server until you use “Delete account”. If you already uninstalled and want to delete it, reinstall and sign in, or write to info@zeifapp.com from your account's address.
How to delete just part of it, without closing the account
You don't need to delete everything to remove one thing:
- A document, vehicle, pet, card or note: delete it from its own page in the app. It leaves the phone and it leaves the server copy.
- A document you shared with your household: deleting it also removes it from the server and it stops appearing for the other members. Whatever they had already downloaded stays on their phones.
- Your cloud copy, without touching the account: write to info@zeifapp.com from your account's address and we will delete it.
Careful with “Delete all my data” in Settings → Help.
That option wipes this phone and doesn't touch the server: the encrypted copy of your vault stays there. To remove it, delete the account or write to us.
What is deleted and what isn't
| Data | What happens |
|---|---|
| Email, display name and password | Deleted when you delete the account |
| Encrypted copy of your vault and recovery envelope | Deleted when you delete the account |
| Your household membership | Deleted when you delete the account |
| Documents, vehicles, pets, cards and notes on the phone | Deleted with “Delete all my data” or when you uninstall |
| Documents you shared with your household | Deleted from the server, but the copies other members already downloaded stay on their phones. We have no way to delete them: for that we would need to get into their devices. |
| Backups you exported | They are wherever you saved them. Delete them yourself. |
| Your subscription's purchase history | Kept by Google Play and RevenueCat for tax and warranty obligations. You need to contact the relevant store. |
Server logs
Our technical connection logs —IP address, date and request path— are kept for 30 days at most for diagnostics and to limit abuse, and are then discarded. They don't contain the content of your documents.
Cancelling the subscription is something else
Deleting the account doesn't cancel your subscription, and cancelling it doesn't delete the account. The subscription is managed from Google Play, in Payments & subscriptions. If you only cancel, you will no longer be able to get in once the paid period ends, but your data will stay there until you delete it.
